Eddie Wright

The oldest member of our club sadly died in October 2020 age 82. Eddie had been a member for a considerable time somewhat in excess of 10 years.

He is survived by his two daughters Carol and Sharon, grandson Neal and his wife Lia, and great grandchildren Lucia and Martha. His daughter Sharon confirms that Eddie spent many happy hours with his friends in the club, was in awe of the talents of others, and greatly appreciated those who had helped him in his later years. Eddie’s family are delighted that the club in deciding to honour Eddie’s memory has commissioned a trophy to be awarded annually to the best novice photographer .

He was in the past a seaman in the merchant navy, and had many tales of adventures on the high sea.

Eddie was a quiet respectful member of the club, a true gentleman, and was regularly in attendance on Friday evenings where he often presented photographic images of family members in club competitions. Two members recall that after they had given a talk to the club Eddie later presented them with the gift of a book. He was most generous and loved by all. Another member of Italian decent recalls that Eddie always spoke to her in Italian, yet another example of his consideration. Eddie loved the club’s annual quiz, and always made a point of thanking those who staged this event.

The images associated with article are the man himself Eddie Wright photographed by club President Gerry Coe, and the glass trophy dedicated to his memory and a fitting tribute to a well regarded member and friend to all .
